There are many traditions at Fay school, of which Taste of Nations is a main one. This event has been an essential part of the school in past years. Every year, we have a day that teachers and students and people from all over the world gather together, and we cook and taste foods from different countries. Food for the event is prepared by boarding students, day students, faculty, staff, and Fay families. Borders gather around with other friends from their own countries, or friends who are willing to cook food with them, to cook their countries’ food. Many Fay families welcome groups of borders to their houses to cook and share this unique experience. All groups gather to the Harlow gym for a buffet dinner, and everyone is invited, whether they are parents, students, staff, or alumni. Taste of Nations is such a unique event that I am proud to introduce as Fay’s tradition as we not only get to share meals but also gain friendship and really get a sense of diversity of Fay School. Although I haven’t taken part in the event yet, from what I have heard, I am certain that this is a great event that is worthy to be involved in. I would like to quote Ms.Ripton, “Taste of Nations is the best day of the year!”
It does not matter whether you are a great chef or not, Taste of Nations is about the experience. You are going to prepare foods with your friends who are from the same country or be invited to a day student’s house. Your friends or families can help you with your cooking, which is also a good opportunity to spend more time with them, or even better, to make a new friend. Also, you can learn many new recipes of cooking food! I am sure that you will be really excited about it. Furthermore, for boarders like me who has really missed the foods of her country, this is a great chance to eat that familiar food, and also let many other people enjoy it; you will be surly proud of yourself!
There are a few people this year that cannot participate the cooking part because of a math competition, but they still have the chance to taste foods! If you are one of them, don’t be worried that you cannot do something in the event. You can help your friends or groups from your country do the preparation, for example, give them some advice about a recipe, spices, sauces, and so on. In some way, everyone has the opportunity to be involved with Taste of Nations
This year, Taste of Nations will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2018, 6:00 - 8:30 p.m. We are inviting your family, your friends, or anyone who is interested in taste of nations to come join us and have fun!
