This Wednesday on April 19th, 2017, Latin students received special recognition and awards for their performance in the National Latin Exam. The NLE, taken by all Latin students at Fay each year, is a prestigious annual exam with 40 multiple-choice questions. For the past six years, the classics program at Fay has grown tremendously both in the number of students and their achievements. This year, out of 29 Latin students, 23 received awards divided into the certificate of merit, cum laude (awarded to students who missed only 3 questions), magna cum laude (awarded to those who missed only 2), maxima cum laude (awarded to those who only missed 1), and summa cum laude (awarded to those with a perfect score). Students took tests pertinent to their current Latin levels (I, II, or III), and received certificates and medals for their respective awards, also being crowned with green or golden laurel wreaths.
